In the Galil there are many natural caves that were formed by disolution of the bedrock and are accesible by rope or ladder.
- Huta 6 is approx 80 meters deep and involves a 30 meter rappel and ascent
- Alma Cave is 105 meters below the surface of the earth and is just outside of Safed
In the Jerusalem area there are many Bar Kochba period caving networks that were hewn by hand by Jewish rebels fighting the Roman conquest of Israel in the 2nd century BCE.
